Employers
This lesson is a guide published by NC Industrial Commission.

The Industrial Commission's employer page and FAQs say a business that regularly employs three or more employees must carry workers' compensation insurance or qualify as self-insured, with exemptions listed in G.S. 97-13, and that corporate officers count toward the three even if they exclude themselves from coverage. Sole proprietors, partners and LLC members are not counted automatically but may choose coverage for themselves, and the FAQ says occupational accident insurance is not a lawful substitute, so count your people before a hire and ask an agent for a quote.
Do this week
Count everyone who works for you on a regular basis, including any corporate officers, and if you are at or near three, get a workers' compensation quote and note the date you would need it in force.
