Hair, skin and nails
This lesson is a guide published by NC Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners.
Read the guideWhat you'll get
For hair, skin and nails: the board's fee page lists $49 for an initial in-state cosmetologist license and $20 each for apprentice, esthetician, manicurist and natural hair care licenses, and its salon page says a salon needs its own license and mobile salons are not permitted in North Carolina. The fee page's footer reads 2022 and the board's home page says a pending Senate bill may change licensure requirements, so confirm fees and hours with the board before you enroll or lease a space.
Do this week
Decide whether you would own a salon or work in someone else's licensed shop, then call the board to confirm the current fee and training hours for your license and what a salon license adds.
