What you'll get

For home inspectors: the Home Inspector Licensure Board's page on the Office of State Fire Marshal's site says you register an online account, then pay a $35 application fee (waived for active duty military, veterans and spouses), an $80 exam registration fee and a $160 license fee, and that some applications are referred to a committee and the board for extra review. The page does not cover education or insurance, which sit on sibling pages for pre-licensing information and insurance requirements, so read those before you budget; confirm fees with the board.

Do this week

Open the board's pre-licensing and licensure insurance pages, list what each asks of you, and then add the three fees to your start-up budget.
