Bedding, cushions and upholstered furniture

For bedding, cushions and upholstered furniture: the NC Department of Agriculture's Sleep Products Section lists comforters, cushions, decorative pillows, pads, sofas and dual-purpose infant car seats among the products it regulates, and its application for a new bedding manufacturer license asks for a copy of your actual law label along with a fee prorated by the quarter your North Carolina business starts. The form does not say whether sleeping bags or camp pads count, so ask the Section before you assume either way.
Do this week
Check your product against the form's list of covered items, and if it might be covered, call the Sleep Products Section at the number on the form and ask whether you need a license and a law label before your first batch.
