Tim Leatherman tells Guy Raz how he built a folding multitool around a pair of pliers from scavenged metal in his brother-in-law's garage, then waited seven years for a first sale because knife and tool companies would not take it. Mail-order catalogs finally did, and within about ten years he was selling a million a year, so hear it if your product does not fit an existing aisle.
