What you'll get

The FTC's manual explains the federal warranty law: a written warranty on a consumer product costing more than $10 must be titled full or limited, one on a product costing more than $15 must state its terms and be available to read before sale, and you can't disclaim implied warranties if you give a written one. It dates from 2006 with a section updated in 2018 and is meant for use with your attorney, so read it before you print a warranty card.

Do this week

If you plan to offer a written warranty, write it in two sentences and check it against the guide's three requirements: title it full or limited, state its terms, and make it available before sale.
