Small Business Nutrition Labeling Exemption
This lesson is a guide published by FDA.
Read the guideWhat you'll get
FDA's page on skipping a Nutrition Facts panel: a low-volume exemption for firms with fewer than 100 full-time equivalent employees selling fewer than 100,000 units of that product a year in the US, which needs a notice filed with FDA every year, and a separate exemption for small retailers that needs no notice. A nutrition claim on the package disqualifies the low-volume exemption, so check your volume and your claims before you rely on it.
Do this week
Count the units of each product you sold in the last twelve months, write down whether you are under the page's unit and employee limits, and note any claim on your label that would disqualify you.
